Even if the new iPhone 15 series is receiving all of the attention, we should still take a look back at the earlier iPhone models. Apple unveiled several updates for the iPhone 14 series of devices in 2022.
That was the time that Apple finally did away with the notch and unveiled the Dynamic Island, along with a huge non-pro phone and some amazing camera upgrades. However, the absence of the iPhone 14 small from Apple's lineup of smartphones was one of the most obvious alterations.
Apple chose to forgo its smartphone choice that would have been more portable than the iPhone 13 mini. Not sure why the brand took this action? This explains why Apple did not produce an iPhone 14 tiny.
What even is the iPhone mini?
It's no secret that, ever since the release of the original iPhone in 2007, cellphones have become larger. However, not everyone desires a phone with a larger screen. Bigger phones sometimes don't fit in pockets and are harder to operate with one hand. Here comes the small smartphone, another version that becomes smaller. And with the release of the iPhone 12 mini in 2020, Apple joined the trend.
A brand-new 5.4-inch smartphone option was unveiled alongside the rest of the iPhone 12 lineup. It was a smaller package, but it still had all the newest features, like 5G, new cameras, and more colours. Apple debuted the iPhone 13 mini and the remainder of the series the following year. It was, you guessed it, a scaled-down version of the smartphone model from that year. The next year, there would undoubtedly be an iPhone 14 tiny to carry on the tradition, right? Nope! The iPhone 14 series from 2022 debuted without a small variant.
So, why was there no iPhone 14 mini?
The reason is much straightforward than you might think—despite the possibility that Apple was advised to remove the small model from its lineup by means of extensive customer research. The smaller phones were just not profitable for Apple to sell in sufficient quantities. Less than 6% of iPhone sales went to the iPhone 12 small, while even less people bought the iPhone 13, making up only 3% of total sales.
There are several causes for these low sales figures. Most consumers would like a larger smartphone, however some customers still prefer smaller models. Although Apple was aware of this beforehand, sales fell short of projections. And why is it the case? The iPhone 12 and 13 mini were difficult to sell. You were left with a smaller battery and it didn't cost much less than the usual size. Customers weren't convinced by the device, even though it performed the same as the standard models.
It goes without saying that Apple was not very happy to produce and market an iPhone that didn't sell quickly, which is why the iPhone 14 tiny didn't exist. Rather than reserving the huge choice for the Pro gadget, the brand instead unveiled the iPhone 14 Plus, delivering a larger version of the ordinary device. Although the performance of this additional size option is still unknown, it will probably outperform the micro.
How to get your hands on a smaller sized iPhone
Would you still rather fit a little iPhone in your pocket? Even with the iPhone 14 mini's absence, there are still other choices. Even though it's getting tougher to find, you can still acquire the iPhone 13 small from some retailers. While it won't have exactly the same performance, it has many of the same features as the more recent series of gadgets.
As an alternative, you might consider the refurbished iPhone 12 mini. While other merchants provide comparable options, Apple maintains its own refurbished store. much though it's an older model, this tiny smartphone nevertheless functions well and costs much less. Alternatively, you might choose the third-generation iPhone SE. This device, at just 4.7 inches, is undoubtedly a much smaller alternative, but it also drastically reduces the features and even goes back to the original home button design.
